Pan

With all the different versions of the popular story of “Peter Pan,’ no director had yet to make a film about how Peter Pan actually became Peter Pan. That is until English director Joe Wright liked the idea of Jason Fuchs screenplay based on the characters created by J.M Barrie. Wright is famous for the romantic film “Pride and Prejudice,” romantic drama war film “Antonement” and the action thriller “Hanna.” Now viewers are excited for the movie “Pan” and to see how it all started for Peter and his friends.

Peter (Levi Miller) was dropped off at an all boys orphanage by his mother as a baby, during the time of World War II. There was little to do so he found himself getting into risky situations with his best bud Nibs (Lewis MacDougall). One night, Peter and the rest of the orphanage boys are kidnapped by pirates in their sleep and taken to Neverland. When they reach the floating island the newcomers meet Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) who puts them to work in mines to find what’s left of the pixie diamond dust. When Peter begins to resemble a prophecy it causes Blackbeard to put him in prison where he properly meets a young James Hook (Garrett Hedlund) and they escape in an attempt to make it off of the island. From there the pairs adventures involve man-eating birds, Indians led by Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara), mermaids, and a familiar crocodile. After all the twists and turns, the movie ends as most movies do, happy, but with a few unanswered questions.

Wright did an amazing job with the movie and portraying all the characters from the original story. It had tons of action and my eyes were glued to the screen to see what was going to happen next. There were some funny moments, which made me laugh out loud, and moments that made me a little sad. I was just hoping we would find out how Hook and Peter fell apart as friends and became enemies. But that’s what sequels are for. Overall it’s a great movie and I definitely recommend it for little ones and those who love the classic version of movie!
