Bad moms

“Quitting is for Dads “

It seems guys get to have all the fun when it comes to movies. Every time you look there is some new comedy coming out about a group of guy friends going to Vegas and waking up with a tiger in their room, oh wait that might have just been one movie, but you get my point. Guy’s shouldn’t be the only ones who get to soil their oats, and this year has been set up to be the year of the Woman in comedy. With “Ghostbusters” already planting its flags, we now get a group of moms who are not going to take it anymore. Written and Directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (Hangover), have decided it was the girls time to shine, minus the tiger of course in “Bad Moms”.

Amy (Mila Kunis) has a perfect little family. While she has everything she wants, the job of keeping it together and being perfect starts to become too much to bear after she catches her husband with his internet girlfriend. With that being the straw that breaks the camels back, Amy starts to lose it a little. When the day has completely defeated her she does what any adult would do after a hard day, she hits the bar. It’s there she runs into fellow mom Carla (Kathryn Hahn) as being a single mom kind of lives life on the edge. While having a few adult cocktails they are also joined by Kiki (Kristen Bell) a stay at home mom who doesn’t really do anything. After they all have a few drinks too many, they come up with the idea for Amy to run for PTA President and to take out Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate) who runs the school with an iron fist. The newfound besties put their plan to work, and show there is nothing wrong with being a little bad sometimes.

Coming from the guys behind “The Hangover” and “21 & Over” you know you were probably in for the right kind of party. It is almost like they write for a lot of their audience’s alter ego as they let them live their regrets without actually having to have them. Add the right cast and you have the perfect set up for a good time. While the first “Hangover” worked, they drew it out to much and it lost a lot of its laughter as it tried to push the line in the sand further and further out. With “Bad Moms” they find the laughter back and for the first hour and twenty minutes you have a pretty funny movie. The laughs come mostly from Hahn, who seems to have whatever comes out of her mouth make you laugh. While Hahn kills it, both Bell and Kunis generate plenty of moments themselves. Where the films slips a little is when it starts to become too sincere as it embraces being a bad mom, not for the fun, but because it is so hard to be perfect. This film is filled with fun and “Girl Power” as even the music is pretty much all women. “Bad Moms” will give women their own “Wolf pack” and good times for whoever wants to join the ride. So if you need a laugh or want to live some regrets, “Bad Moms” show you its perfectly fine to be bad.
